Bring your favorite set of wheels!

A bike parade is a perfect spring party. We used this theme for my son’s second birthday. The entire neighborhood showed up on bikes, with kids of all ages. We held the party in the morning and served birthday donuts instead of cake.

PARTY ATMOSPHERE If the weather cooperates, this entire party can be held outside. The driveway becomes the activity room where the guests decorate their own bikes. If possible have the birthday child lead the parade to a nearby park for gift opening and cake eating.

DECORATIONS Mark off the driveway or party area with yellow caution tape, allowing an opening for guests to enter with their vehicles. A “Happy Birthday" could be hung across the house or garage with helium balloon bouquets on either side. The gift and cake area should be decorated in the same colors.

THE PARTY TABLE This simple party calls for a simple party table, especially if the party is held at a park. Simply spread a tablecloth on a picnic table and stack paper plates and cups next to the donuts, or cake. Place a chair behind the center of the table for the birthday child to stand on and blow out the candles. Party guests will gather around the table to sing. Spread big blankets or quilts on the grass for the kids to eat donuts or cake and to watch the opening of the gifts.

THE CAKE A bicycle can easily be made by decorating two round cakes with licorice sticks to look like spokes on wheels. Or hold the parade party in the morning and serve donuts, juice and coffee…a sprinkle donut for the birthday child, of course!

PARTY ACTIVITIES · Bike decorating : Provide a bag of bike decorations for each guest. Include streamers, balloons, ribbons, clothespins, playing cards, tissue paper, and colored tape. Let each guest decorate their own bike, offering help if needed.

· Bike parade : Line up the guests and their bikes behind the birthday child and lead them all to the cake area.

PARTY FAVORS · Pinwheels · Whimsical bike reflectors · Bicycle bells · Bicycle license plates
